SkyJournal (free electronic pilot logbook)

Pandemics come and go, the life goes on, more flights are being made. As many of you know keeping your physical pilot logbook up-to-date can sometimes be a pain. Calculating those summaries for every page is already time-consuming on its own but then having to do monthly and yearly ones in addition to that elevates the pain to another level.

Like most I have been on a look-out for a good electronic logbook which would help me with keeping of my flight records. I had a specific set of requirements in mind:

    • Ability to track/calculate everything which Jeppesen FCL050 logbook does, namely:
      • Flight log pages with summaries (18 entries per page)
      • Yearly pilot summaries (by month)
    • Available both on Desktop (Windows, Linux, Mac) as well as mobile (Android, iOS)
    • Ability to store/export data in a common user-friendly format
    • Usable with no Internet connection
    • FREE for personal use

I have not found any app/solution which would satisfy all of the above unfortunately. There were a few good apps out there but none of them freeware.
So me being a geek I went to Google Sheets and created a spreadsheet which I think can work for anyone wishing to keep their log electronically while preserving complete control of the data and without reliance on any 3rd party apps. As mentioned earlier the biggest value I was looking for was an ability to replicate the pages of my physical Jeppesen logbook as well as its yearly summaries so that I wouldn’t have to calculate all of that stuff myself.

First sitting is over

After months of living in a cave, ramen-rich diet and a permanent double-dent imprint on the sofa the first ATPL exam sitting is over! 7 exams in the bank, 7 more to go. The whole experience was intense, educational and rather satisfying.

For those who are still to embark on this quest, I have compiled my thoughts and observations into a page which I hope should be able to shed some light and provide helpful tips on preparing for your SENASA exams.
